September 10th, 2008: The Large Hadron Collider at CERN turned on today and it worked! It's really exciting - it's the world's biggest machine and the world's biggest science experiment, and it didn't even destory the planet. Nice!

My excitement at seeing this on the news was just about quadrupled when CERN physicist Kristen sent me these amazing pictures of her inside the LHC. Professor Science has been inside the LHC! So awesome. Thank you Kristen! You made my day.
