"<i>For the last couple of years I've been involved directly with <a href="http://www.bowlingforboobies.com" target="blank">Bowling for Boobies</a> (a non-profit fundraiser which provides monetary assistance to L.A. women who are experiencing financial challenges as the result of fighting and living with breast cancer). It's been a vastly rewarding experience, as the money BFB generates goes directly to someone struggling with this deadly disease (and not some ambiguous research society). This year, we're at it again, with the 6th Annual Bowling for Boobies, which culminates on October 24th in Los Angeles at Jillians Hi-Life at Universal City Walk with a red carpet, followed by an evening of bowling. The Go-Gos Jane Wiedlin will be on hand to knock down some pins with The Horror Starlets bowling team, which is comprised this year of myself and actress Sarah Butler, star of the October 8th Anchor Bay Entertainment unrated theatrical release I Spit On Your Grave, Ashlynn (of the award-winning The Human Centipede) Yennie, scream queen Bianca (Albino Farm) Barnett, producers and actresses Tracy (Dark Woods, Zombie Honeymoon) Coogan and Brooke (iMurders, Slime City Massacre) Lewis, Wicked Lake and Lucky McKees upcoming The Womans Carlee Baker and the as-of-yet unannounced winner of the currently running VH1 reality series Scream Queens 2. So, how can you help? A modest (and tax-deductible donation) would be most appreciated. Visit The Horror Starlets donation page here - http://www.firstgiving.com/thehorrorstarlets Please help us reach our goal of $8,000 even a donation as small as $20.00 will help! It appears I was terribly wrong as Scott, director of the original '79 sci-fi chiller, is already casting up a strong female lead. The film will pre-date the existence of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), so a new tough hottie must be found. According to the Playlist (via the Sunday Times), <i>The Disappearance of Alice Creed</i>'s starlet Gemma Arterton is meeting with Scott. "<i>Ridley Scott saw 'Alice Creed' and loved it. He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something,</i>" Arterton told the paper. Obviously, this is quite early in the casting process and nothing is official until the name is on the dotted line. Penned by Jon Spaihts, the film follows the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth that is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. "For the last couple of years I've been involved directly with Bowling for Boobies (a non-profit fundraiser which provides monetary assistance to L.A. women who are experiencing financial challenges as the result of fighting and living with breast cancer). For more info, you can visit Bowling for Boobies"

XmlTextMost Blu-ray released are just double-dips of the DVD releases and carry no new extra features. Anchor Bay set out to create a premium release of Adam Green's Hatchet that BC had the pleasure of viewing early. The verdict? It's well worth the money. Read on for the review and pick it up in stores tomorrow.

XmlTextWelcome to this week's edition of Horror in Your House. Adam Green's splatterfest Hatchet headlines a Blu-ray heavy week of studio releases. Tobe Hooper's classic horror flick, Poltergeist also gets the Blu-ray treatment along with 2005s creepy swamp mansion flick, The Skeleton Key. There is even something for the old school horror fans, a collection of Hammer Horror films released by TCM and Turner Home Ent. Anything catch your eye this week?

XmlTextFor some reason I figured it would be a couple of years before we heard that Twentieth Century Fox was pulling the plug on the Ridley Scott-directed Alien prequel. It appears I was terribly wrong as Scott, director of the original '79 sci-fi chiller, is already casting up a strong female lead. The film will pre-date the existence of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), so a new tough hottie must be found. According to the Playlist (via the Sunday Times), The Disappearance of Alice Creed's starlet Gemma Arterton is meeting with Scott. "Ridley Scott saw 'Alice Creed' and loved it. He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something," Arterton told the paper. Obviously, this is quite early in the casting process and nothing is official until the name is on the dotted line. Penned by Jon Spaihts, the film follows the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth that is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

XmlTextTaking on Saw 3D in theaters on October 29 is Wes Craven's post-converted slasher My Soul to Take, which stars Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Meade. This morning we woke up to a leaked look at the killer from the film that can be viewed inside. This is your final chance to heed my spoiler warning. In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psychopath been reincarnated as one of the seven, or did he survive the night he was left for dead?

XmlTextOur final review out of FrightFest is for the highly anticipated zombie flick from the Ford brothers, The Dead, which sounds like it didn't go over all too well with the London audience. "Instead it's merely a pretty good [zombie film], and I'm not sure that's enough for US audiences to give it a chance if/when it ever finds its way here. I'd certainly recommend it to those who are sick of funny and/or fast zombies, but unlike the directors, I won't oversell it for you." Click the title for the full review.

XmlTextBefore arriving in theaters on December 1 from Fox Searchlight, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan will premiere at both the TIFF and in Venice. Starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Winona Ryder, Barbara Hershey, Sebastian Stan, Kristina Anapau, we were supplied with a revised one sheet along with a few stills from the flick that centers on a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it's unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions. How dark the film will be is yet to be seen.

XmlTextThe first TV spot for the Matt Reeves-directed Let Me In aired this past weekend, while Overture/Hammer Films' provided us with the full lot of hi-res imagery. In theaters October 1, Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from Kick-Ass) stars as Abby, a secretive 12-year old girl, who moves next door to Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road). Owen is a social outcast who is viciously bullied at school and in his loneliness, forms a profound bond with his new neighbour. Owen cant help noticing that Abby is like no one he has ever met before. As a string of grisly murders occupy the town, Owen has to confront the reality that this seemingly innocent girl is really a savage vampire.

XmlTextSyfy is getting into the Billy Ray Cyrus business, moving into development on "UFO: Unbelievably Freakin' Obvious," a new reality skein in which conspiracy theories involving unexplained activity and paranormal phenomena are investigated. Cyrus and son Trace will travel cross-country and offer a skeptical solution to many of the theories. Pilot, to be produced by Peacock Prods., will be shot in a few weeks. "The existence of paranormal phenomena is something I've always wanted to explore further," Cyrus said. "Getting the opportunity to take this adventure with my son, who has always had a keen interest in this area, is a dream come true. I hope this series can shine a light on some of the activities we have questioned, and the mysteries that have long inspired us." Said Mark Stern, exec VP of original programming for Syfy: "Allegations of cover-up and conspiracy around unexplained phenomena has inspired heated debate for decades, and it will be interesting to see what truth Billy Ray and Trace may discover." Too bad every single paranormal show on SyFy is allegedly as fake as Heidi Montag's entire face.

XmlTextSean Decker of Dreadcentral.com wrote in asking the horror community as we approach October our month of months to unite for a good cause: to support local Los Angeles women battling breast cancer by giving a small donation, and to support the horror actresses who are supporting them. "For the last couple of years I've been involved directly with Bowling for Boobies (a non-profit fundraiser which provides monetary assistance to L.A. women who are experiencing financial challenges as the result of fighting and living with breast cancer).

XmlTextFrom Neil Meschino comes a new micro budgeted indie that gives homage to the '80s, Mold!, which is "set in 1984, when the war on drugs was at its height, the story concerns a strain of mold developed by the government to wipe out Colombian coca fields. Unfortunately, during a demonstration the mold gets out of control and proves to be deadly to more than just vegetation." Check out the teaser trailer inside.
